25th April Feedback Click on this heading to leave a comment: Cork 6-7s Codes and Code-breaking AM

Hi Everyone. I hope you’re all getting on well with the quiz. Again, you can leave any questions or comments you have about the material here. I’ve also got some questions for you all which we can discuss here in the comments;

Out of all the codes and methods of encryption we’ve learnt about, which do you think is the most secure, and why?

If you wanted to send a secret message to your spy friend, which code would you prefer to use? Would you choose the most secure code or another one? What else would you consider when choosing which code to use?

  1. Hi Alison

    Loved the class.

    I know that if you send a message by phone that it can be encrypted. Do they use a code for this?

    Thanks

    1. Hi Colm, thanks for your question. Yes. The code used for encrypting phone messages is much more complicated than the ones we learned in class but uses the same principle of changing the letters and numbers that you write in your message in to seemingly random symbols that could not be understood by someone who intercepted the message. The recipient needs to use a “key” to decode the message, like a more complicated version of the ones we used in class. If anyone wanted to learn more about this they could read about Public Key encryption and Private Key encryption..
